[ Her eyes narrow into a bit of a glare, but it's more playful than anything. ] I can be plenty nice, thank you.

So we're not going shot for shot, then? Bummer. [ Either way, she's finishing off what she's got in her glass. ] I was aiming for liver failure today. Guess that plan's shot to hell now.

[He smirks.]

Well, if we go shot for shot, I'll be taking you to the med bay, not home.

Which is really where anyone wants to go. None of the doctors are that hot.

Yeah, I can, and if you still want that hug, you'll keep any other smart remarks to yourself. [ She gives him a pointed look. ]

No, they're really not. We need the ones from soap operas back home or something instead.

[Alex shakes his head, taking another drink, before moving to refill his glass.]

...I don't think I've ever seen one of those.

[ She smiles a little and tilts her glass in his direction when he picks up the bottle, silently asking for a refill herself. ]

You should count yourself lucky, then, because they're awful.

But I thought you said they had hot people in them?

[Alex refilled for her, giving a grin.]

They can't be that bad, if they have redeeming qualities.

That's the only redeeming quality. [ She takes a sip from her glass before continuing. ] The plots are riddled with holes and don't make any kind of sense, they have seriously sub-par acting, everyone's related to everyone else, and they do anything they can to up the drama to a ridiculous level. It's mindless, lame television meant for stay at home moms that have nothing better to do with their lives.

...so it's kinda like here, then.

[Alex gave a wider grin, taking a long drink.]

I mean, this would make for one ridiculous television show.

[ She lets out a quiet hum as she nods. ] Yeah, it would. I think it'd be more primetime, though, not soap opera. It gets a little too violent for the middle of the day crowd.

I guess.

I mean--I never really got to watch much tv.

Count yourself lucky; it gets boring after a while. [ Of course, October's always preferred video games and books to television, so maybe that's why she feels that way.

Downing the rest of her alcohol, she sets her glass back down on the bar. She stares at it for a moment before running a hand over her face. ] So I'm guessing her original owner isn't big on lending her out? Even to the guy that took care of her while he wasn't here? [ By which she means lending to Alex to lend to October. ]

It's...complicated.

I kinda refused to give Anya back to Erik after he came back.

[Alex shrugged.]

I didn't think he deserved it but...with him having lost an arm and stuff, I think I'd be a big asshole if I didn't give the dog back.

In other words no, he won't let you take her overnight again. [ Her lips press together in a slight frown. She really needs to find something that'll help that isn't reliant on other people. ] Guess I'll just have to figure something else out.

Basically, yeah.

[He looks over at her, frowning slightly.]

Sorry.

[He doesn't really like letting people down.]

[ She shakes her head and looks over a him, hand moving to his knee so she knows he's listening. ] Don't be. Seriously. You did what you thought you had to do; I'll survive. [ It's frustrating, sure, but she doesn't want him feeling guilty at all. Not over something like this, especially when he's already bummed enough about giving the dog back. ]

[Still doesn't make him feel that much better about it.]

Just...couldn't be that much of an asshole.

Come here. [ Her hand slides off his leg so she can wrap her arm around his shoulders instead. Being on bar stools and her sitting next to him means it's not quite a hug, but that doesn't stop her. ]

...okay.

[He sighs and slides off the stool, instead, to give her a proper hug, pulling her in close, so he could rest his chin on her shoulder. He's unnaturally warm, but that's just an effect of his powers.]

[ When he gets off his stool, October turns fully towards him, arms wrapping pretty much instantaneously around him. One hand moves to the back of his head while the other stays between his shoulder blades, thumb rubbing over his back. She remembers him warming the pool for her so she's not overly surprised by the warmth of him. ]

You're a good guy, sweetie, believe it or not. [ Even if he's been an ass to her before. Now that she's gotten to know him more, October realizes that there's way more to him than that. ]

Yeah...well don't let anyone know that. Can't ruin my cred.

[He sighs, and damn, if it feels good. Sorry, October, Alex doesn't really get a lot of hugs, normally. He holds on for a few more moments, but finally he pulls back, but not before giving October a quick but awkward kiss on the cheek, flushing (and regretting it) immediately.]

You're--you're good too. Just--thanks.

Secret's safe with me.

[ He could hold on for as long as he needed to and October wouldn't have complained. It probably goes against her outward appearance, but she's a really big fan of hugs. Hell, she's a really big fan of touchy-feely shit, even if she expresses a good portion of it through sarcasm with certain people.

Which means, of course, that she grins when he kisses her cheek. Her hands move to his biceps, giving them a brief squeeze as she tries to keep her grin from growing any wider at the sight of him flushing like that. ] Of course. I'm here for you, whatever you need.

[ She rubs his arms for a moment and then, unless he stays put, moves to turn back towards the bar. ]

Good.

[He bit his lip to hide a small smile, and then moved to sit back down as well, pouring them both new drinks. So that hadn't been as embarrassing as it could have been. Awesome.]

Because I need all the friends I can get.

You've got me until this place gets sick of me. [ Which she's hoping, against all logic, won't be for a very long time.

She grabs her glass once he's done pouring and lifts it up for a toast. ] To friends.

Well let's hope it likes you a lot.

[Alex smiles, and raises it as well, tinking it against hers.]

And awesome people.

[ She smiles at the comment and then nods in agreement to his toast before downing her drink. The alcohol's making her feel warm now, cheeks a little flushed. It's nice. ]

That might have to be my last one for a while unless you really do feel like carrying me back to my room.
