[ and she'll plop three right into the other girl's hand like an overly enthusiastic grandparent, except this is actually a good present. ]

[ Her grin widens - she'd been expecting one, not three - as her hand closes carefully around the cigarettes. ]

I'll make them last as long as possible, trust me. [ Though there's only so long that she can wait before they end up gross. ] Thanks for this, Erica. I definitely owe you one.

Well, by my count you owe me three, but we'll work out the math later.

[ she's feeling a little generous these days, but part of it is because in a place like the tranquility, it never hurts to have people she can count on. ]

Have you even got a light on you here?

I do, actually. [ When she first arrived on board, whatever brought them here was kind enough to put a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in her locker. Since she's been pretty low on cigarettes and hasn't felt the need to anxiously play with the lighter, it's still got a ways until it dies on her.

She leans over to the bureau at the end of her bed and grabs the lighter from the top drawer, tossing it to Erica. ] The space gods might not like me now but they did at one point.

[ she catches it unnaturally fast and takes a moment to play around with it without actually sparking it, since she's not too sure how much longer it might last. ]

Really? Did they use to give you better presents?

[ Though she doesn't gasp or really gawk, the speed of Erica's movement does cause October's eyes to widen slightly in surprise. ]

Just the one time, when I first got here. [ Though she's not asking about the reflexes just yet, October's tone makes it pretty clear that she wants to. ] I haven't gotten shit since then. Not in my locker, anyway. [ Jim brought her some stuff from Strela. ]

[ if october did ask, she'd better be prepared to here every excuse imaginable. erica doesn't seem to realize she's done anything strange because the heightened reflexes aren't something she keeps too under control. ]

So, what'd you get the first time?

[ Maybe someday, when she doesn't feel like asking will push Erica away. She likes the girl, even if she doesn't know her too well. ]

This-- [ She gestures towards the jeans she's wearing (there's still a faint blood stain in them, one that won't come out completely no matter how hard she tries), the black tank top (which is also bloodstained, but it's harder to tell since the fabric itself is dark), the black Converse. ] The lighter you've got, a tube of mascara that's long gone, the eyeliner I mentioned earlier, one pack of fucking cigarettes and these. [ She holds up her hands this time, showing Erica the four silver rings on her fingers. There's nothing particularly special about any of them, though. ]

Not a bad haul, considering we're stranded in the middle of space. I mean, I always wondered why it can pick up the most random debris type items and not something helpful.

Because that, my dear newbie Erica, would make life up here too fucking easy. Whoever's in charge has to make it as hard as they can possibly imagine. [ Okay, it could probably be harder, but still. ]

Newbie, huh? How long did you say you'd been here?

Jump five was my first. [ She holds out her arm so Erica can see the tattoo. ]

[ erica pulls her own sleeve up so she can look at the "12" so eloquently etched onto her own arm and compare. it'd have been a full seven months between them -- and then some for both, since erica herself has been here awhile. ]

I feel like a cow.

[ Letting out a quiet hum of agreement, October shifts so she can lean back against the wall. ] I think everybody does. Hell, I've wondered if that wasn't their intention, whoever "they" are that brought us here.
